Editorial Policy

Mortgage decisions involve a lot of money, so we hold our content to a clear set of standards. This page explains how Morxavelintaq guides are researched, written, reviewed and updated.

Independence

No lender, broker or advertiser pays to appear in our guides or to influence what we say. Advertising on the site is served by third parties such as Google AdSense and is kept visually separate from editorial content.

Sourcing

We rely on primary and official sources whenever possible, including the CFPB, HUD and FHA mortgagee letters, the VA Lender's Handbook, USDA Rural Development, the FHFA, and the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac selling guides. Figures that change on a schedule, such as conforming loan limits, are labeled with the year they apply to.

Accuracy and examples

Worked examples use round, realistic numbers and show each step of the math. They are illustrations, not quotes. Interest rates, fees and lender requirements vary, and we say so when a lender's own rules (often called overlays) may be stricter than program minimums.

Updates and corrections

We review guides when rules change and at least once a year. The "Updated" date at the top of each guide shows the last substantive revision. If you find an error, contact us through the form on our contact page and we will correct it promptly.

Not personal advice

Our guides are general education. They can't account for your full financial picture. For decisions about your own loan, talk with a licensed loan officer, a HUD-approved housing counselor, a tax professional, or a real estate attorney.
